Private treaty
Private treaty is simply another term for a direct cash sale.
Depending on the value, circumstances, or personal preference, you may opt for the quicker and more straightforward option of selling your items directly for cash. This means that you are selling your goods and transferring ownership to the auction house.
This option is popular for several reasons, including no selling fees, no insurance charges, and the immediate sale without having to wait for an auction day to determine the outcome. We are always interested in acquiring a variety of antiques, watches, vintage collectables, gold, silver, currency, mixed obsolete coinage, and banknotes.
Arrange a meeting with one of our experts at our premises or your residence, as we offer home visits. Private treaty cash exchange can be the ideal choice for you, but we will provide guidance on whether auction consignment would better suit your needs.
Consigning to Auction
One of Blenheim Auctions specialists will conduct a comprehensive appraisal of your items and provide an assessment of the prices they are likely to achieve at auction. The decision on what to do next is entirely yours to make. There will be no pressure on you to make a decision. Our valuations are provided free of charge and come with no obligation. It is important to note that the estimated value of your items by our experts will determine whether consignment is a viable option. This determination will be based on whether our expert believes a realistic total reserve can be set at a feasible minimum level, which may vary depending on the auction category. If this threshold cannot be met, we may still offer you the alternative option of a direct cash purchase (Private Treaty).
When you are satisfied with the valuation and ready to proceed, our expert will assist you in completing a consignment form. Each item will be detailed alongside the valuer’s recommended lower and upper estimated values, as well as its reserve price.
To access an illustrated version of our consignment form, simply click on the provided pdf file titled ‘New Vendor Consignment Form’. While vendors have the option to set their own reserves, we may strongly advise against this practice. Our experts are well-versed in their respective fields and possess extensive experience in auction sales. Items that remain unsold, failing to meet the vendor’s reserve price, will incur additional charges clearly outlined in the vendor contract (refer to the section below on Becoming a Vendor).
As a first-time vendor, your consignment form will also serve as your new vendor’s contract, containing Blenheim Auctions comprehensive terms and conditions. We will guide you through this process and ensure your understanding and agreement before finalising the contract. Upon becoming a vendor, you will receive your Blenheims Auctions pack, including a copy of the contract/consignment form.

We are always keen to purchase many different types of antiques and collectables, as well as gold, silver, currency, mixed obsolete coinage and banknotes
When you submit items for auction, you will receive a customer receipt containing your details (including bank account information for payment), client reference number, sale date, a brief list of consigned items, and any additional information discussed with the specialist. You will be required to review and sign the receipt, receiving a copy for your records. This receipt serves as a contract between you and Great Western Auctions. Some client details and our fees are outlined on the client copy of the receipt. For further details, please refer to our complete terms and conditions.
For transportation of bulkier items and larger consignments like estate clearances, we can coordinate transport and removal costs through a third-party carrier. The carriage rate is £50 per hour, covering travel time to and from the pickup address, packing, unpacking, loading, and unloading. All charges will be communicated with the client before any action is taken, and the carriage fee will be deducted from the client’s total proceeds.
Regarding reserves, a reserve price is the minimum price at which an item will not be sold by the auctioneer. The specialist and client will mutually agree on a reserve price, which cannot exceed the low estimate set for the item. The reserve price may be discretionary, allowing the auctioneer a 10% margin from the reserve price for selling the item. For instance, with a £100 discretionary reserve, the auctioneer could sell the item at £90.
